PHIL 310 Philosophy of Mind

This course introduces students to traditional and current topics in philosophy of mind and cognition. The first part of the course is devoted to the mind-body problem and classical responses to it like dualism, identity theory, and functionalism. The second part deals with two characteristic features of mind: intentionality and consciousness. Accounts to be discussed include representationalism and the computer model of mind, connectionism and neural networks, theories of mental content, theories of phenomenal consciousness. Zihin Felsefesi Bu ders zihin ve biliş felsefesinin geleneksel ve modern konularına bir giriş niteliği taşımaktadır. Dersin ilk bölümünde zihin-beden sorunu ve bu soruna verilen ikicilik, özdeşlik teorisi ve işlevselcilik gibi tepkiler incelenecektir. İkinci bölümde ise zihnin karakteristik özellikleri olan yönelmişlik ve bilinç kavramları ele alınacak; bu kavramlara yönelik, temsilcilik ve zihnin bilgisayar modeli, bağlantıcılık ve sinir ağları, zihinsel içerik teorileri ve fenomenal bilinç teorileri tartışılacaktır.
